Our unique 3D-printed fortification received success at Designblok

3D printing of concrete

In the fall of 2022, we participated for the first time in the design and fashion showcase Designblok. At this prestigious event, we presented an exhibit built on a combination of 3D-printed fortifications and several distinctive elements created specifically for the Designblok theme - forest vs. jungle. We brought to Prague a tangible representation of conflict, showcasing our perspective on its impact on Czech society and introducing one of the modern trends in construction to the visitors of this prestigious event.

We have a decade of experience in robotics and industrial automation, collaborating successfully with global companies. Since 2021, we have been transferring this knowledge to the construction and architecture industry, aiming to push boundaries in this field as well. 3D printing not only brings material savings but also addresses the shortage of human labor in construction. Simultaneously, it provides architects with significant freedom and opens up new possibilities in architecture. In the spring of 2022, the conflict in Ukraine affected the development of our technology. We decided to help in a way we know best. Instead of benches and other furniture, our architects began designing modular fortifications against light and medium-caliber weapons, which received the name MoDeSty (Modular Defense System).

Between Conflicts

Visitors to Designblok had the opportunity to see a demonstration of our defense furniture firsthand. Specifically, we exhibited a modified checkpoint, a structure designed for patrols at facilities and roads, suitable for use by the military, police, or customs officials, but also with general applications. The showcased example had a modified interior inspired by the theme of the forest (Designblok 2022). The exterior of the checkpoint retained its military appearance. This contrast was intended to draw attention to the conflict Europe finds itself in: while we can seek refuge comfortably inside and debate about war, there is an ongoing real war beyond our borders. The presentation was aptly named "Between Conflicts," reflecting this idea.

Still on display

Our fortification garnered significant interest during Designblok, and our architects, who were available throughout the event, answered dozens of questions. Due to the public's overwhelming interest, we have arranged with the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague for our checkpoint to remain on display even after the Designblok gates close. The exhibit is currently accessible in the museum's garden, directly across from Rudolfinum, so feel free to come and check it out! If this concrete piece intrigues you, take a look at our MoDeSty website for more information.
