The capital city is undoubtedly the economic powerhouse and a highly attractive entrepreneurial region of the Czech Republic. This is evidenced by its quarter share of the national GDP. This is due, among other things, to the development of electrical engineering fields, the production of information and measurement equipment, computing technology, as well as the pharmaceutical industry, tourism, and related services. Local businesses are able to extend their reach beyond national borders and achieve international success. This was clearly demonstrated in the regional results of the MONETA Tradesman of the Year and IBM Company of the Year competitions.
The expert jury was most impressed by Linda Bezusová Kamarádová, who is dedicated to the traditional production of marmalades and onion jams from seasonal fresh products. "Mrs. Bezusová Kamarádová deserves recognition both for her compelling and inspiring entrepreneurial journey and for her enthusiasm and willingness to seek new paths and opportunities in her field," commented jury member Jakub Svatek from MONETA Money Bank. Among the companies, ICE Industrial Services, specializing in industrial automation, emerged victorious. "I appreciate the broad scope of the winner's entrepreneurial activities and, given our experience with them in the automotive industry and knowledge of the quality of their services, they were certainly one of the favorites for me," commented Martin Kadečka, Head of Sales of Personal Cars at Volkswagen, Porsche Czech Republic.
In each region, the winner of the MONETA Tradesman of the Year Srdcař category is also announced, honoring tradesmen who have overcome various life challenges in their business endeavors yet continued working. In Prague, this award went to self-defense trainer Linda Štucbartová.
"We strive to increase efficiency through automation, robotization, and digitization. We help automate those activities in the industry that are repetitive, demanding, hazardous to employee health, and we try to return creative work to people and the work that should be done by machines, to machines," says Tomáš Vránek, founder of ICE Industrial Services, IBM Company of the Year 2022 of the Capital City of Prague.
Modern robot programming is very user-friendly and not far removed from more complex computer games. "That is the added value we would like to return to technical teams because we see that Czechs have technology in their genes, and I have been part of hundreds of projects, and many teams were made up of Czechs who are considered some of the best experts in the field of automation," states the founder of the winning company. Each production line or machine is custom-made. One of the most complex production lines was for the complete manufacture of car armrests, consisting of thirty separate machines. "Every manufactured part has its birth certificate, which defines its quality and also allows for production management and data-based managerial decisions," explains Vránek. A typical project lasts three-quarters of a year. Customers have certain expectations for production speed, often with continuous line operation. For the armrest production line, they saved thirty-five agency workers across three shifts and also 75% of space in the plant. The line can produce up to two thousand armrests a day, a fivefold increase in production speed. "Now we have about two hundred people, of which seventy are programmers. We are the largest automation programming team in the country. We have about forty designers, making us also one of the largest design teams. We have many production technicians, installation technicians, and project specialists. We handle about a hundred projects of various sizes annually," proudly states Tomáš Vránek.
The company faces a significant challenge in the form of construction automation. They aim to make a mark with 3D printing of concrete structures, starting with protective and security elements against terrorism. This includes the completion of a 3D printed buildings project and printing the first building in the Czech Republic eligible for occupancy approval.
